London Mexico Solidarity
28 April 2018
We are writing to protest at the failure of the Mexican government to prevent ongoing aggression towards the inhabitants of the village of Acteal, Chenalho, Chiapas, and victimisation of the survivors of 1997 massacre.
According to information circulated and filmed on video by the Organización Sociedad Civil Las Abejas de Acteal, (http://acteal.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/denunciamos-agresion-armada-en-nuestra.html) on Saturday 21 April 2018 paramilitaries attacked and partially destroyed a new building that is being constructed in Acteal to commemorate the victims of the 1997 massacre. The same group also fired weapons during the assault.
It is shameful that the Mexican government continues to allow aggressive and violent acts to be perpetrated against the people of Acteal. We want the Mexican government to know that such actions are widely reported in international media, and that it is responsible for the security of the people of Acteal in front of the whole world.
We demand that the Mexican government ensures the security of the people of Acteal, and immediately brings the perpetrators of the recent attack to justice.
